Three Flying Quail

Each bird was carved from a single piece of Tupelo gum wood. The birds seem to be floating. No wires or rods were used for support. The vegetation is soldered painted copper. The base looks like stone but is made from wood. The earth is made from the chips left over from the carving. Leaves were fashioned from paper bags. Each bird is feather detailed, stoned with diamonds for texture and burnt for additional detail. This is a truly exceptional carving from the artist’s private collection.
